De Vermont a Bolivia por el cambio climático
Syrup Industry Chill?
If you are interested in learning more about the challenges that Vermont maple forests and the local syrup industry could face if global climate changes affect the freezing and thawing season, then attend a presentation Thursday by UVM Extension Maple Specialist Tim Wilmot at Burlington’s Echo Lake Aquarium and Science Center.
The discussion is part of Echo’s Cafe Scientifique, a bimonthly discussion series for adults 21 and older where an expert addresses a hot-button science topic and chats with members of the audience while sharing drinks and hors d’oeuvres.
Wilmot, whose work includes outreach and education, will share his expertise on the sap-flow mechanism of sugar maples and the interactions among temperature, sap pressure and flow rate. He also conducts research on forest nutrition and the relationships among soil and foliar chemistry, tree growth and vigor, and sap sugar production in maple stands.
